Most of us are aware of dust mites - even though they are invisible to the naked eye - we know the asthma and allergy risk they pose. Bedding Infestations Increase

Bed bugs can live in our bedding, attracted to warm humid places. They are brown in colour, the size of an apple pip, and bite by injecting a numbing anaesthetic onto the skin before piercing the skin and sucking blood. It's said these critters in our bedding can drain four times their own bodyweight of our blood in 15 minutes. Although bed bugs in our bedding is a relatively new phenomenon (they were eradicated it was thought in the 1950s after intense pest control), it's said their return of the insects in our bedding is reaching epidemic proportions.
Bed Bugs in Bedding on the Rise
Bed bugs in our bedding can cause horrible itching, and the 500% rise of the critters in the last two years is said to be down to the increased number of people travelling. As well as living in our bedding, they can live on our clothes. And people who are travelling abroad, experts believe, are bringing some unwanted presents back with them. Unlike dust mites in bedding which increase if duvets are not regularly washed, bed bugs are not to do with hygiene issues, they are simply picked up and carried into a home. Dirtier houses however are said to make removal of bed bugs harder, and experts advise washing bedding regularly on a high heat as well as hoovering mattresses. Checking your bedding won't necessarily reveal the blood-suckers - they hide in mattresses and cracks in the floor and walls, but, like vampires, come out during the dark of night - they feed between 1am and 5am when most of us are oblivious in the land of nod. Experts have said victims who have bed bugs in their bedding can endure over 150 bites.
