The single mum of two young kids, doing low-paid jobs unable to make ends meet felt there was no light at the end of the tunnel. One night in the dead of winter, she grabbed her bedding and headed into her backyard after an urge for open space and escape overwhelmed her. The urge to go outside, armed with the appropriate bedding - a pillow and down sleeping bag - allowed her to sleep under a canopy of stars. The bedding was warm enough to feel cosy despite the wintry night, and under the vast canopy of galaxies stretching on and on above her, she felt her problems become small and manageable. Taking her bedding outside helped give her the perspective and strength she needed. As she wrote: "Man-made walls and concerns have a way of closing in on you."
